How to create and save searches

Applying filters is a quick and effective way to find relevant data in Dealroom. You can build and refine search queries based on your specific needs, then save them to receive personalized notifications and updates.

How to create a search?

Filter bar:

The quickest way to begin filtering the data in Dealroom is by typing directly into the Filter bar to create your search query. Looking for companies in Europe? Type ‘Europe’ and select it from the HQ Location. You can add more filters to your search such as industries & sub-industries, funding rounds, launch year, business models, and more.

TIP: You can add a filter and then choose to exclude it from the results. For example, if you are looking for European startups outside of your home country (let’s say Spain – hola!), you can add a filter for HQ location Europe + HQ location Spain. Then select the dropdown next to Spain to choose ‘Exclude’.

Advanced filters:

The Advanced Filters help you narrow down your search query by allowing you to add more filtering options to the Filter bar. For example, if you want to search for a specific fintech category, you will see all the different options in the Advanced Filters (e.g., banking, crypto) —and so forth, you can then pair fintech with additional categories, such as company launch year and funding, which you can easily select from the available filtering options.

TIP: You can select more than one industry filters at the same time. For example, you can add fintech and enterprise software to include results from both categories or reduce it down to only companies that have both results. You can select this option next to the ‘Showing XX number of companies’, and click ‘Show results for fintech and robotics only’ to toggle between the AND and OR options. You can also perform the same function with other filtering options e.g. HQ location.

Keyword search:

Using the keyword search, you can type any keyword you have in mind into the filter bar to find companies with that keyword in their tagline. This helps you discover specific categories or companies in just one click.

For example, typing "hydrogen refueling" returns companies with that exact keyword in their tagline. Similarly, using a broader keyword like "fintech" will return companies that include "fintech" in their tagline. The keyword search is also available on other pages throughout the platform.

Using AND/OR Logic

When selecting more than one filter for the same data points (technologies, tags, industries, locations, keywords), you can choose between:

  • AND: Shows only companies that are tagged with all selected data points.
    Example:
Selecting Deep Tech AND Artificial Intelligence will return only companies that are involved in both technologies.
  • OR: Shows companies that are tagged with at least one of the selected technologies.
    Example:
Selecting Deep Tech OR Artificial Intelligence will return companies with either tag, or both.

Use this logic to broaden or narrow your results based on how specific your search needs to be.
Start with broader terms, then add filters to refine.

Smart Matching with Semantic Search

The search feature also includes a smart matching option powered by semantic search. Instead of relying solely on exact word matches, smart matching interprets the meaning behind your keywords or phrases.
You can type in a concept, word, or sentence—such as "circular economy in France" or "AI for healthcare"—and the search will return results that match the intent and context, not just the literal words.

This makes it easier to discover relevant companies even when they use different terminology.
