University & Spinouts

Learn how to explore universities on Dealroom, track spinout startups, sort alumni metrics, and export data to benchmark institutions or scout for partnerships.

How to use the Universities Page

The Universities page helps you explore academic institutions and their impact across startup ecosystems. You can see how universities contribute in terms of entrepreneurship, innovation, and connections to startups and founders.

What you can do on the Universities page

  • Browse university profiles: See summary data for each university, including the number of affiliated startups, spinouts, alumni activity, and patents.

  • Drill down into details: Click into a university profile to view affiliated companies, founders, spinouts, and other relevant academic-to-startup signals.
  • Filter & rank universities: Use filters like country, alumni, alumni output (Number of alumni-founded companies, alumni-founded unicorns), or number of spinouts to find universities that best match your interest.

  • Spinouts startup data: Access detailed data on spinout startups — companies created directly out of universities. You can see how many spinouts each university has produced, their funding activity, industries, and growth signals.

  • Sort university tables: Each university table includes sortable columns (ascending or descending), such as:

    • Alumni-founded startups

    • Alumni founders

    • Alumni who became founders (e.g. raised >$10M)

    • Alumni-founded unicorns
