Startup Funnel
Measure ecosystem performance from creation to outcomes. The Startup Funnel is a powerful feature designed to measure innovation ecosystems — from the earliest startup creation signals to large-scale outcomes. It provides a structured way to understand how ecosystems form, grow, and generate value over time, making it a strong indicator of overall ecosystem performance.
➡️ Find it under the Stats & Insights tab in the left menu.
What you can do with the Startup Funnel
1. Top of the funnel: Founder origins
At the top of the funnel, you can analyse where founders are coming from (education institutions, companies, big tech, accelerators, unicorn), helping you understand the roots of startup creation.
This view highlights the talent pipelines feeding an ecosystem.
2. Main funnel: Startup creation and growth
The main funnel tracks the flow of new startups and how they progress through funding and growth stages.
You can explore:
-
Newly created startups
-
Startups that have raised funding
-
Breakdown by startup stage, from Seed and Series A all the way to Unicorns and Gigacorns
2.1 Location-based analysis
The funnel can be filtered by location, allowing you to analyse specific countries, regions, or cities and compare ecosystem dynamics across geographies.
2.2 High-impact filters
You can further refine the funnel to focus on:
-
Unicorns (valuation above $1B)
-
Thoroughbreds (companies with $100M+ in revenue)
This helps isolate top-performing companies within the ecosystem.
3. Outcomes: Value creation
Below the funnel, you’ll find outcome metrics that measure value creation across the ecosystem. These metrics show where value and growth are being generated geographically, making it easier to identify:
-
Leading hubs
-
Emerging ecosystems
-
Regions gaining momentum over time
Tips for getting the most out of the funnel
Tip 1: Filter by location
You can customise the entire funnel by simply selecting a location on the main page. The funnel will automatically update to reflect the ecosystem you’re analysing.
Tip 2: Use sector filters
Apply sector filters to view funnel data within specific domains, such as Deep Tech, Generative AI, and other mapped sectors. This is especially useful for sector-focused ecosystem analysis.
The Startup Funnel offers a holistic, data-driven view of how ecosystems evolve — from first-time founders to global success stories — making it an essential tool for ecosystem benchmarking and strategic insights.
